My Why

The healthcare industry is a labyrinth- complex, intricate, and ironically, not always designed with the patient in mind. It’s a business at times, a service in theory, but one thing it consistently is? Complicated.

As both a patient and a professional within the healthcare system, I’ve witnessed a deep disconnect; one that extends far beyond individual health. At the root of systemic oppression, financial and structural barriers, politics, social inequities, the economy, and the environment lies a common thread: the desire to be seen, to have one’s voice heard, and to be met with genuine listening. I wanted to bridge that gap in healthcare- with compassion, ethics, and strategic action.

how i got here

The early 2000s were a challenging chapter in my life—one marked by the beginning of my chronic illness journey. That journey is always unfolding, but it’s shaped both my personal growth and my professional path.

I’ve always been an empath, with a deep appreciation for the mind and the stories we carry (shoutout to growing up in the 90s- I was in my Oprah Winfrey era, watching her after school on the reg). My curiosity of mind and behavior led me to study psychology, but I realized I wasn’t just interested in the theories; I was captivated by the people living them and the impact they could have on the individual and the people around them...the human experience.

Social work became the next natural step. It gave me the tools I needed to not only understand what drives us as humans but to improve the systems that shape our lives, working towards dignified and equitable solutions. What started as a personal desire to be seen and heard became a lifelong commitment to advocating for communities I deeply care about. Over time, I discovered that this experience was not unique to me but much bigger than myself…it is a universal desire we all carry.

Since then, I’ve been the voice in the room asking, “But what’s the patient perspective in all of this?” and then working to build the roadmap to strategically utilize those insights.

I'm the kind of person who hears a word and instantly queues up a song in my head (be glad you’re not around when I actually sing it out loud).

Yes, I’m a social worker—and yes, I’m an introvert. I’m a walking contradiction, and I’m okay with that. Outgoing and bubbly on the surface, but most at peace when I’m with my close circle or enjoying solitude.

I'm deeply empathetic, and, let’s be honest- sensitive. But sensitivity is my strength (if you are a fellow INFJ like me, don't let anyone tell you otherwise!).

I’ve got perfectionist tendencies but I also embody the classic youngest sibling persona.

I'm very spiritual and love all things related to health and wellbeing. Learning about anything to better the mind, body, and spirit is soup for my soul.

Fashion and home decor are my creative outlets- if I'm not working, scouting out a local coffee shop, or spending time with my family, you can usually find me at HomeGoods, Marshalls, or hunting for a good deal.

My ideal Friday night? Horizontal in my favorite sweats, getting takeout, and watching Dateline.

Things I despise: corporate jargon, selfishness, and when you have to go around the room with a group of people and say a fun fact about yourself.

At my core, I value patience, compassion, thoughtfulness, and integrity.
